Governor clears air over airport project

ITANAGAR, Nov 3: The Governor of Arunachal JP Rajkhowa today clarified that he is not against construction of Green Field airport at Hollongi and has only raised concern over irregularities in compensation claim. Rajkhowa has been facing barrage of criticism ever since a letter written by him to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking reconsideration of green field airport project and upgradation of Lilabari airport has surfaced in the media. He also added that Lilabari airport should not be upgraded at the cost of Hollongi airport project.
"I have received many complaints alleging that there are abnormalities in the compensation
claim. Many power politicians and their family member allegedly own land at Hollongi
airport site. Based on the complaint received from various quarters I wrote letter

ITANAGAR, Nov 3: Governor JP Rajkhowa today appealed all the politicians to forget political rivalry and work together for the people of state. While acknowledging that he is aware about Congress government facing internal dissidence, he said its time everyone shun political differences.
"We have very short period of working season. So we have to make maximum utilization of it. As working season has started in the state and its time everyone concentrate on development. Road, school and other infrastructure projects have to be completed within the short winter season," said Governor.

ITANAGAR, Nov 3: Stepping up their attack against Chief Minister Nabam Tuki, five legislators of the state demanded the Chief Minister's resignation on moral ground saying that he has lost public confidence.
"Tuki has no legitimacy to continue as CM as he has lost public confidence. He should tender his resignation forthwith on moral grounds," said heavyweight legislators, Chowna Mein, Wanglin Lowangdong, Kumar Waii, Komlung Mossang and Thangwang Wangham, in a joint statement.
They said that the ineffective leadership of Nabam Tuki has caused serious political instability and chaotic governance in the State. "Today, under the leadership of Tuki, the State is going through the worst phase of instability in its history. The financial condition has deteriorated to worst level. There is growing insecurity among the people due to aggravating law and order situation. Development in the State has come to a standstill."

Governor never asked for new vehicles: Raj Bhawan
ITANAGAR, Nov 3: The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh has directed all concerned to cancel the order for new vehicles proposed by the Resident Commissioner for him.
Responding to a news item published in this daily regarding purchase of new vehicles for the Governor, the Raj Bhawan in a press statement clarified that the Governor had never asked for replacement of the two vehicles placed at New Delhi for the use of the Governor. It was brought to his notice that there is an intimation from Resident Commissioner, New Delhi for replacement of the existing old vehicles by new ones which have already exceeded the permissible mileage of 1,00,000 km. On the issue of requirement of the models and colours of the vehicles under the office of Resident Commissioner's proposal, the photographs of the models and colours of the vehicles were shown to the Governor by the ADC, who wanted to know his views on the earmarked models. Accordingly, the Governor had given his opinion.
Recently, the Deputy Secretary, Governor Secretariat, Itanagar, when asked whether the proposed vehicle must be Petrol or Diesel model, the Governor had given his choice of Diesel vehicle to save fuel cost.
It is worth mentioning here that about the decision to buy new vehicles, the Governor was told that the old vehicles of the Governor and Chief Minister in New Delhi need to be replaced, considering security status of 'Z' Plus protectees, which should have vehicles in excellent condition.
It is unfortunate on the part of the reporter to give a wrong impression that the Governor had ordered for costly vehicles in spite of poor financial condition of the State, thereby contradicting to his advocacy on financial prudence.

Rijiju urges students to concentrate on study

ITANAGAR, Nov 3: MLA Gabriel D. Wangsu has resigned from the post of Chairman, Arunachal Pradesh State Council for Science and Technology (APSCST).

Legal Metrology dept conducts unannounced raids
ITANAGAR, Nov 3: Several cases of violation of Legal Metrology Act and Rules were detected by an official team of the Legal Metrology and Consumer Affairs department during its unannounced inspection conducted in various locations in Itanagar today.
The traders were found selling packaged commodities at exorbitant rates over and above the MRPs and without mandatory declaration of contents prescribed for commercial packages. MRPs in commodities were found smudged. Foreign made toys were also being sold without confirmation to the prescribed norms and standards.
The team detected twelve irregularities and violations of Legal Metrology Act & Rules.
The unannounced inspection was conducted by the mobile team of the department led by Amrit Taba, Jurisdictional Assistant Controller, Papum Pare and Inspectors of Legal Metrology and Consumer Affairs department of Itanagar and Naharlagun in presence of Minister Tirong Aboh and Parliamentary Secretary Nyamar Karbak. The team inspected vegetable market, Akash deep and Ganga markets, several garment, hardware and electrical shops, China Bazar, Chicken & Fish market and Petrol pump and found lots of irregularities in weight and measures, packaging, pasting of maximum Retail Prises etc.
The objective of the sudden inspection was to get a first hand knowledge of prevailing market scenario of Capital Complex and to create awareness amongst business community and public as well.

He said dismal condition of road in Itanagar, Naharlagun, Nirjuli, Doimukh and Poma not only troubles citizen but also is a matter of prestige. lifter duo Jimjang Deru (56 Kg) and Kujum Taba (77 Kg) for coaching camp in Houston,
Texas, America ahead of Olympic qualification at event -
Kojum and Deru are the first sportspersons of Arunachal Pradesh to achieve this feat as per the record available with the office of the Arunachal Olympic Association.
The fate of Kojum and Deru's for Rio Olympic will be decided in this elite Championship.
Jimjang Deru won Gold medal at Youth Commonwealth Games and created four Commonwealth records while Kojum Taba won Gold medal in the recently concluded Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship at Pune.
Meanwhile, AWA lamented lack of support from the state government for food supplement and other requirements of the lifter duo.
According to the Olympic weightlifting team Coaches, who previously coached Indian Weightlifting team in the Olympic Games: "A weightlifter cannot improve and move ahead unless he is supported by strong food supplements".
Kojum and Jimjang shed tears when they were informed that AWA has not received any assistance from the state government for them. They will leave for Texas America on October.
Papum Pare karate team for Mini Olympics
ITANAGAR, Nov 3: Papum Pare District Karate Do Association (PPDKA) has selected 13 players (both male and female) to represent the district at Mini Olympic Games scheduled from December 2 to 5.
Sempai Prakash Limbu and Sempai Tarh Tapak are the Coach and Manager of the team, informed PPDKA in a release.
All the selected players are asked to attend the coaching camp being held from November 2 to 25 at Shotokan Karate Headquarters, Naharlagun.
The selected players are (Male, Kumite): Rakesh Gamnu (-
Tage Saa will also participate in Individual and Team Kata events along with Rakesh Gamnu, Komri Nada.
(Female, Kumite): Choti Yorpen (-
Niktar Ani, Choti Yorpen and Ligang Anky will also participate in Kata events. The player (female) under age category of 18 year above and below 45kg will be selected on the basis of performance during the coaching camp.

Politicians should exhibit maturity
The standard of political rivalry in the state is drastically going down with each passing days. These days every time any central ministers visit Arunachal, opposition parties led by BJP submits large volume of complaint letters alleging gross corruption charges. On their part state government try their best to woo the visiting minister and pleads for the central assistance. Yesterday also when minister of state for finance Jayant Sinha visited state capital, he faced same kind of situation.
Chief Minister Nabam Tuki requested him to impress upon his ministry to clear the pending proposals amounting to Rs. 4571.55 submitted to NITI Aayog by the state government. Tuki made the appeal when MoS finance held discussion with state government official on various issues of governance. Later in the day a team of state unit Bharatiya Janata Party called on Sinha and apprised him of the alleged precarious financial position of the state. The team informed the Union Minister that ruling Congress government is leading the state to bankruptcy by resorting to rampant corrupt practices and financial mismanagement. Being the principal opposition party of state BJP has every right to raise the corruption issues. Today Arunachal is facing tough time due to corrupt Congress regime. However a time will come when both ruling Congress and opposition BJP stop will have to stop blame game, which has potential to further damage faltering image of Arunachal. When it is a matter of state interest they should join hand together and work for the betterment of state. All the political parties will have to exhibit maturity as state is going through a transitional period. If politicians don't stand together, the Arunachal will face difficult time in the future.

Rijiju should forget Nehru & remember poor
Dear Editor,
This is with reference to the news item "APCC condemns Rijiju on Nehru statements" published today in your esteemed daily. First of all Congress party should concentrate in solving their internal problem and stop lecturing others. Secondly coming back to MoS Home Kiren Rijiju's statement on Nehru, I would like to suggest him to stop digging old wounds and take us towards better future. Rijiju often land himself in avoidable controversies be it beef issue or this latest jibe on Nehru. It will be great if he concentrates in development work and stop trying to gain media limelight over petty issues. People are starting to closely scrutinize his performance. MoS Home should start delivering on the promises made to the people. Youths of Arunachal who elected him are restlessly waiting to see some kind of visible change at grassroot.

Do we lack deeper discernment on Governor's statement on Airport?
Dear Editor,
This is in apropos to the article "Arunachal will not forgive Mr. Rajkhowa" and "
Looks like there is a deal between Governor and opposition party" which appeared
in Readers Forum column on 2nd November 2015 in your esteemed daily and also the
statement issued by Governor on Airport issue. I have my entitled individual analysis
on this. Indeed, no sensible citizen of Arunachal state would concur to part away
from a vital Airport Project which is long felt vision and need. We all cannot stand
with the idea of scrapping it on simple grounds of high cost. It is but natural that
nearest airport at Lilabari, Assam require up gradation for un-
But question remains what could have made the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh to make
such statement and write a letter to Prime Minister (if any) for scrapping the airport
project or shifting to nearby Assam citing cost and other (if any) as the reasons.
Did he literally mean it? I have little reservation and dissent view on this. I am
in some way glad that this issue of Airport has been racked up by the First Citizen
of the state minus shifting to anywhere out of capital region of Arunachal as purported
by him. The Airport project has been battered and disrupted by controversies for
long which we all are well aware since its inaugural at Karsingsa. His controversial
statement has at least reignited our so called close-
The moot point here is what has become of such a vital Airport Project taking into consideration of strategic transportation and communication and why so much of impediments towards its completion. Is it again the so called "exorbitant claim for compensation" and other benefits which has almost derailed many project(s) in the state, a court case pending the technical issue (if any) or has the "Act East Policy" of centre turn out to be inactive as it has stopped to "Look East" (policy) are stalling the project. Queries are incessant, and out of any comprehension for layman like me.
Now that the subject has become broadly debated and discussed we all (State govt.,
NGOs, Citizens, etc) should put together an impetus for early completion of the airport
project and take-
